Looking for a Used Boat
There are so many used boats on the market today and at better prices than they’ve been in a long time. Previous owners who know what they want can search the classified listings and work directly with boat owners. For the first time shopper, working with a boat brokerage makes the process much simpler.
Brokerages have so many different models they can show you, plus a vast knowledge of the boats and what kind would satisfy what you are looking for. With so much to choose from, it’s very helpful to have a broker help you narrow down the choices. He can help you once you tell him what you will use the boat for and what features are important to you. The length you are interested in will determine whether you will be able to trailer the boat. Depending on the age of the boat you want, if you want something only 1 or 2 years old, you may be able to purchase a new boat given all the great deals lately.
When you look for a used boat, you’ll find many of the same type in various conditions. They range from rarely used to heavily used. Don’t assume that a rarely used boat is always the boat in better condition. It all depends upon the care the previous boat owner gave the boat. If he took care of it, cleaned it, updated it, and repaired or replaced faulty parts, a used boat can be in great condition. One that was rarely used may very well be neglected. Pride in ownership should show. You’ll pay more for a boat in great shape, but it’s worth it. On the other hand, if you’re handy and don’t mind a fixer-upper, you can save a lot of money.
