How to replace Force 1987 outboard 9.9 starter rope?
My starter rope is becoming worn and I want to know if I will have problems if I start taking parts off to replace the cord. Is it pretty much straight forward or are there loose parts, springs, etc. I need to watch for? Thanks, Ken
Ok!` yes there are problems if you just unbolt. Spring and pin. But, since your old cord is in place and the spring is tight, slowly pull the old cord as far out as you fell comfortable with. then jam the spool so that it will not turn. Now look at the loop-knot carefully. use a sharp pointed tool to loosen the knot..... now remove the old rope and using the exact same size `starter cord, wrap it as needed, so it looks like the old one. Now remove the jamming tool and let the rope recoil on the spool. when you get slack, feed the cord through the engine cover and put the handle on. Good luck!!!
